Every language keeps a small zoo of ready-made comparisons, and they rarely translate. English is "as stubborn as a mule" but "as busy as a bee"; Serbian puts the ant to work instead — vredan kao mrav. Learn them as whole phrases, the way a Serb hears them.
The pattern is simply adjective + kao + animal, and the animal stays in the nominative — nothing changes about it. What does change is the adjective, which agrees with whoever you're describing: on je veran kao pas, ona je verna kao pas, oni su verni kao psi.
Two of them use a verb rather than an adjective: radi kao konj (works like a horse) and ćuti kao ribica (silent as a little fish — said of someone who can keep a secret).
1. veran kao loyal
2. tvrdoglav kao stubborn
3. vredan kao hard-working
4. gladan kao hungry
5. lukav kao cunning
6. glup kao silly
7. umiljat kao affectionate
8. radi kao works nonstop
9. ćuti kao keeps a secret
1. kao pas
2. kao magarac
3. kao vuk
4. kao lisica
5. kao mrav
6. kao mače
Now the adjective describes the whole species, so it goes plural.
1. Mislim da su psi . Zato se kaže „veran kao pas".
2. Mislim da su magarci . Zato se kaže „tvrdoglav kao magarac".
3. Mislim da su mravi . Zato se kaže „vredan kao mrav".
4. Mislim da su vukovi . Zato se kaže „gladan kao vuk".
5. Mislim da su lisice . Zato se kaže „lukav kao lisica".
6. Mislim da su mačke . Zato se kaže „umiljat kao mače".
SR (lat): U trećem bloku pazi na množinu — pridev prati imenicu. Nije osetljivo na velika/mala slova, i može latinicom ili ćirilicom; dijakritici su opcioni.
СР (ћир): У трећем блоку пази на множину — придев прати именицу. Није осетљиво на велика/мала слова, и може латиницом или ћирилицом; дијакритици су опциони.
EN: In block 3 mind the plural — the adjective follows the noun. Not case-sensitive; Latin or Cyrillic both fine, diacritics optional.
