Uzrok Čega?

Serbian 501 — one noun, one case, and three different endings depending on what follows.

Uzrok is followed by the genitive, always. The English "the cause of something" gives you the same shape, so the hard part isn't the case — it's the ending, because these nouns belong to three different declensions.

TypeNominativGenitiv
srednji rodnasilje, drogiranje, siromaštvonasilja, drogiranja, siromaštva
ženski na -adiskriminacijadiskriminacije
ženski na suglasnikglad, nezaposlenost, gojaznostgladi, nezaposlenosti, gojaznosti

That third row should look familiar. It's the same group you met with hrabrost and radoznalost — feminine nouns ending in a consonant. In the accusative they don't change at all, which is easy. In the genitive they take -i. Two cases, two behaviours, one group of words.

And glad belongs there too, even without the -ost: uzrok gladi. It sits in the same declension as ljubav, noć and stvar — short feminine nouns that end in a consonant and behave nothing like žena.

Watch also the two verbal nouns in the list: drogiranje is built the way you saw two exercises ago, from drogirati se, and it declines like any other neuter noun in -e.
