Serbian 301 — asking questions about a picture, with every word on the page in Cyrillic.
Up to now most exercises here have let you type in whichever script you know. This one doesn't. The whole text, every question and every answer, is in Cyrillic — because at some point reading it has to stop being a decoding exercise and start being just reading.
Nothing new is being tested. The grammar is the present tense you already have, and the questions are the ordinary ones: who, what, where, when. The only difficulty is the alphabet, and that difficulty disappears faster than anyone expects.
| Ćirilica | Latinica | English |
|---|---|---|
| Шта | Šta | what |
| Ко | Ko | who |
| Где | Gde | where |
| Када | Kada | when |
| Који · Која | Koji · Koja | which (m. · f.) |
| Да ли | Da li | the yes/no question opener |
Four letters do most of the damage at first: Ш is š, Ђ is đ, Ћ is ć, and Џ is dž. And watch the two that look like Latin letters but aren't: Р is r, not p, and С is s, not c. That single confusion accounts for most beginner misreadings of Србија.
In the exercise below you drag the words from the top into the gaps. The verbs come in pairs — носим / носиш, седим / седиш, пијем / пијеш — so read the whole sentence before you decide whether it's about me or about you.
Превуци и спусти
Drag each word onto the gap where it belongs, then press Submit to check.
